Boxall Ward recently completed a collapsed culvert replacement in Blackstone, West Sussex, after the existing culvert had caused drainage problems at the site.

The project involved excavating the affected area, removing the failed section and replacing the collapsed culvert to restore the drainage route.

Drainage problems caused by a collapsed culvert

The customer contacted Boxall Ward for help with an existing drainage issue. Investigation identified a collapsed culvert that needed to be replaced.

Culverts provide a route for water to pass beneath roads, tracks, entrances and other areas of land. If a culvert becomes damaged or collapses, water flow can be restricted or stopped altogether, potentially leading to waterlogging, flooding and further deterioration of the surrounding ground.

For this project in Blackstone, the solution was to excavate the damaged area and replace the failed culvert as part of the necessary groundworks.

Collapsed culvert excavated and replaced

The Boxall Ward team used a 3-tonne excavator to carry out the excavation and replacement work.

Once access to the failed section had been created, the collapsed culvert could be removed and the replacement installed, restoring the required drainage route through the site.

The complete project took four days from the start of the groundworks through to completion.
